The TracMe Locator Beacon  is a small device the size of a small candy bar, providing "peace of mind" through an increased level of safety for the millions of people around the world who participate in outdoor and adventure sport activities.

In the event that assistance is required, the TracMe provides a means for search and rescue to locate the injured or lost persons in the minimum possible time.

 Alternative locator beacons that were originally designed for air and marine use are available, but they are generally too large and too expensive for personal use. The TracMe Locator Beacon is the result of a new low cost design that has been achieved by applying technological innovation to be affordable and practical.

A simple diagram showing the operation of the TracMe Locator Beacon is shown below. The signal from the TracMe may be tracked with direction finding equipment from either aerial or ground based search and rescue teams.

Unique Features Of The TracMe Locator Beacon

  • Voice beacon - can be monitored by anyone on the existing radio emergency channel.

  • Does not automatically instigate a search and rescue - about 98% of distress alerts detected from inadvertently activated beacons are false.

  • Extremely small and light weight.

  • Low cost - less than half the cost of existing beacons.

  • Very low cost for the Search and Rescue (SAR) crews.

  • A search can be performed with a single aircraft and one ground crew of 2 to 3 people.

  • Will operate continuously for about 7 days - this gives the rescuers ample time to locate the beacon.

  • Single use - once the unit has been activated, it can be deactivated but not reused.

  • Shelf or storage life should be up to 10 years.
